Gardens to many people are a means of escape from the hustle and bustle of modern living. However this doesn’t mean that you only have to use traditional materials in your garden. Sometimes using modern materials are a great way to save you time and energy. One such material that is becoming popular in the garden is vinyl.

The main reason that you should buy a vinyl fence instead of a wooden one is simply the fact that it’s so durable and stays looking perfect for much longer than wood. If you find that your vinyl fence has become dirty then you should just give it a wash over with some water and soap. It’s not difficult at all and a whole load quicker and easier than trying to paint a wooden fence. Often wood fences suffer from insects but vinyl is immune to this problem.

However you will perhaps notice some mildew developing on your vinyl fence but this only happens if your vinyl fence is dirty. The dirt is an organic substance that allows mildew to grow. Get rid of the dirt and you also get rid of the mildew. If you want to prevent the growth of mildew even further than you can dilute some bleach and spray it onto the vinyl.

You will need to decide for yourself how good an alternative vinyl is compared to wood because everyone will have a different opinion on this matter. In general you will have to look pretty close to tell the difference between vinyl and wood and most people don’t look at fences that carefully. If you don’t like the idea of painting wood then you will be delighted to know that vinyl already comes in different colors and you only need to paint it at a later date if you decide you want to change the color for your own reasons. Although dark colors can have a tendency to fade over time so this is something that should be noted.

In years to come and you decide you want to change the color of your fence then you should give it a good clean and then use an appropriate type of paint. You will see on the tin whether it’s suitable for vinyl or not and you should also make sure that you can use it outside otherwise it might not be as durable as you would expect.

Vinyl fences are amongst the easiest to install just because they are sold with molded tabs built in. This means you don’t need to know anything about nailing and screwing in order to install you vinyl garden fence.

You will see that picket fences are everywhere you look and there is certainly nothing wrong with this. If you decide that you also like picket fences then having one made from vinyl is very easy to achieve as they are already made to the usual dimensions you find in picket fences.

Overall vinyl fencing materials are well worth having a look at if you want a fence that looks great and will continue doing so for many years to come. Life is too short to be constantly having to attend to all the variety of home and garden maintenance jobs that need to be done. A vinyl fence will really make your life much easier.

Vinyl fences are becoming increasingly popular with more and more homeowners largely because of their low maintenance and high level of durability. Vinyl fences are mostly made from the same strong material used to make vinyl widows and siding, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), in an intricate process using several ingredients designed to ensure strength and quality.

Shopping for Vinyl Fences

It’s wise to do plenty of research before buying any large purchase such as a vinyl fence, comparing prices, options, and learning how to install it properly if you’re planning on tackling the job yourself. Also when shopping for fences, pay attention the gauge or thickness of the vinyl as of course, the thicker the better. Additionally, make it a point to learn the terms of the warranty that comes along with the fence.

Most vinyl fence warranties range from 20 years to a lifetime guarantee and will cover things such as fading, yellowing, and any breaking or cracking, as long as the damage isn’t due to external forces such as being hit by a vehicle or a tree branch.

You’ll also want to decide on the exact style of the fence, with the most popular types being ranch, picket, wrought iron-style, and privacy. It’s also a good idea to see that the fence you purchase contains titanium dioxide, which is needed to prevent fading from the sun’s UV rays.

Other important ingredients to check for besides titanium dioxide are chemicals called impact modifiers. Impact modifiers are rather important as they are used to increase the strength of the vinyl in very cold temperatures.

The Pros of Owning a Vinyl Fence

- Vinyl fences are incredibly low maintenance as they never need painted, stained, or treated and are easily cleaned with the garden hose.

- A vinyl fence will never splinter, need boards replaced or be vulnerable to insect infestation.

- From a distance, some vinyl fences closely resemble wood and come in a variety of colors besides brown such as white, tan, and gray.
The Cons of Owning a Vinyl Fence

- The upfront costs for vinyl fences may be a bit more expensive than their wood counterparts, however, money is usually saved over time on maintenance costs.

- In fluctuating temperatures or extremely cold weather, vinyl fences may become susceptible to damage if they are not properly manufactured.

Installing a Vinyl Fence

Depending on the exact style used, the majority of time spent assembling a vinyl fence is simply snapping the pieces into one another using a specially designed notching tool. The type of channels and fasteners needed will also depend upon the style of vinyl fence, and are usually attached using screws or rivets. Buyers have the option of having the fence professionally installed at an additional cost, or can opt to follow the directions and install it themselves.

Chain link fences are perhaps one of the most popular styles of fences used by homeowners today. Offering extreme durability, security, as well as low maintenance, chain link fences are excellent for keeping pets and children safe and contained while keeping the view open.

Tips for Shopping for a Chain Link Fence

Before shopping, you’ll want to decide on the height of fence that you need ahead of time as there are a variety of sizes to consider. Chain link fences are generally anywhere from 36 to 72 inches, and some areas restrict the height of residential fences, so if in doubt, it’s best to check with your neighborhood’s local zoning laws.

The posts, top rails, and of course the wire “fabric” of chain link fences can be found in varying thicknesses. The thickness of the fabric of a high quality chain link fence is generally around 11.5 or 11 gauge with the most common gauges between 13 and 6. The smaller the gauge number, the more steel that is used and the sturdier the fence will be.

Chain link fences can now be coated with vinyl and may come in colors such as black, brown, and deep green, which is useful for blending with the landscaping. Vinyl coatings are not only useful for increasing the life of the fence but for covering sharp edges along the bottom keeping kids and pets safe from injury.

There are also privacy slats that come in a number of colors, and as their name implies, they add privacy by blocking visibility and can be inserted into the fence mesh either vertically or diagonally.

Installation Tools

Some of the tools and supplies you’ll need to install a chain link fence include:

- Pliers
- Pipe cutter
- Level
- Tape measure
- Mallet
- String
- Shovel
- Concrete
- Hole digger or auger
- Wooden stakes and blocks
- Fence mesh and hardware

Installation Tips

- Before installing your chain link fence, be sure to know exactly where your property line is and allow room for the fence poles when digging. You’ll also want to be certain you aren’t digging into any type of utility or sewage lines.

- The majority of residential chain link fences will require holes for the posts that are about 6 to 8 inches in diameter and about two feet deep. Posts are usually placed anywhere from 7 to 10 feet apart.

- Concrete should be used to set the poles, and when dry, should be slightly rounded with the highest point near the pole, so that water flows off of the concrete and doesn’t gather around the pole.

- Terminal posts are important to use when installing a chain link fence, especially if the ground is uneven or sloped.

Note that having a friend help with installation is particularly useful when it comes time to stretching the fence to fit onto the poles and fittings.

A Review of “Historic Photos of the Chinese in California”

The book “Historic Photos of the Chinese in California” recently came into my possession. It looked like the standard coffee table book of photos. However, there was something about the picture on the cover that caused me to examine it carefully. I was then compelled to turn it over and look at the nine photos reproduced on the back cover. Each one commanded a bit of my time to study it fully. I was drawn to each photo.

When property owners need affordable, durable, and strong fencing they may want to consider chain link fencing. Chain link fencing is customizable and requires little maintenance as compared to other types of fencing. Chain link fencing is an ideal fencing option regardless of the intended use. The type of chain link fencing used by a property owner will be determined by the fence’s intended use. Chain link fencing comes in many styles, strengths, and colors. Property owners can be sure to find a chain link fencing option that will be right for them. Before choosing a fence, there are several things that property owners will want to take into consideration.

Things to Consider:

Home owners will need to ascertain whether their fence is going to be utilised to keep pets in, whether kids are going to play on or nearby the fence, whether the fence is going to be placed near plants or trees, whether it is going to be used for privacy, near a parking lot or for a sporting activity. Based on these factors, property owners will determine the fabric, framework, fittings, and gates to be used in their fencing Brisbane.

The fabric of the fence is inclusive of the thickness of the wire within the chain link fence, includes the size of the fence openings and also the protective coating if it has been chosen for the fence. The thicker the fabric, the more durable the fence. The framework of the fence will depend on the height of the fence as well as the fence’s intended use. The thickness of the fittings should be similar to the thickness of the fabric and should conform to the fence’s intended purpose. Gates are available in three general styles, and the style chosen will be based on the intended use of the gate.

Chain Link Fencing Options:

Chain link fencing comes in various heights. These heights range between 36 and 72 inches. The height of the fence will depend on the purpose of the fence and local zoning restrictions or laws. Gates can be up to 60 inches in width.

The thickness or gauge of the fence fabric will need to be determined. The majority of fences are available in a gauge or thickness of between 13 and 6 with 11 being the most commonly used option. The smaller the gauge number, the sturdier the fence.

Property owners will need to decide whether to use a fence coating or not. Chain link fences can now be purchased with vinyl coatings of various colors. These coatings are generally brown, dark green, or black. These coatings help the fence to better blend into the property’s surroundings. Coatings can also provide added protection for children or pets as the coating will cover sharp edges.

If the fence will be used to provide a measure of privacy for the property owner, privacy slats may be purchased. These slats come in various colors and can be inserted into the fence either vertically or horizontally.

Chain link fencings are one of the most well known perimeter fencings since they are easy to build, cost effective and long lasting, fulfilling the motive of keeping people in/out of a particular region. Chain link fencings are usually made from galvanized steel wires. The wires spread vertically and are bent into a zigzag position so that all the zip hooks onto the wire directly on one side and all the zap onto the wire directly on the other side. This makes up the typical diamond shape seen in this sort of fencing. There are different sizes of fencing and you can choose from fencings of various sizes.

Chain link fencings are popular amongst people because it is relatively cost effective and is easy to install. Chain link fencing adds an added advantage because of the open weave, chain link fencings are transparent and do not stop sunlight from both sides of the fencing.

Now-a-days to make a choice of chain link fencing is not as easy as it was in the past. This conventional, entirely galvanized steel item are now available in many colors and weights to fulfill the expectations and necessities of any industrial, profitable or residential needs. Fuse bonding, powder coating and vinyl coating are the types of methods in use to provide chain links in different sizes, colors and strengths. Hence, the latest chain link fencing is a more practical alternative for locations that require style as well as security and longevity.

After all these topics have been recognized one should keep in mind all the four elements of a chain link fencing which are framework, fabric, fitting and gates. Fabric is the diamond shape steel wire that the fence is composed of. Framework includes the posts as well as the supports for the fabric. The fabric is held to the framework by the fittings and gates are to enter and exit the area within the fence.

Vinyl fencing seems to be all the rage at the moment and I have been looking into it myself. I am interested in having something with a lifetime guarantee because repairing and painting as well as replacing my current horse fence is costing me a lot of money. I realise that replacing the whole lot will be expensive but I think that it will be worth it because I will no longer have to pay to maintain it. Fortunately I put up the current horse fence and so am confident to be able to fit the new one myself as well and that will reduce the costs that perhaps other people have to pay as there will be no labour charge. I am also hoping that if I buy at the moment, I will be able to get a bit of a discount.

Many companies are getting desperate to sell because of the recession and the lack of spending going on. I am lucky that my work is going well still and so money is not a massive issue but I still like a good bargain. I am never prepared to skimp on quality to get a good price but if I can get some money off a good quality product then that is a different issue altogether! I am normally pretty good a haggling and as I have cash to spend that might help me get a better deal, it has done in the past. I will certainly have a good go and see what happens – I always figure that you have nothing to lose if they refuse but everything to gain if you can get a discount. I have pretty much decided on getting a vinyl fence now but I just need to decide which company to buy it form and I think the best way to choose is to get a selection of them in to do a quote and then compare services, lead time and price and decide which seems the most suitable for me. Despite always trying to get a good price… service is very important to me as well, as I am never prepared to pay for a poor service.

It is possible that I could have problems or questions and if there is not anyone in the company capable of answering them then it is basically not worth dealing with them. I also need a fairly quick lead time because one of my posts is so rotten that it could easily be kicked down if my horses decided to have a go at it. I am not sure why I didn’t notice it was so bad before but I have suddenly noticed and it has become urgent to replace it.

Menards vinyl fencing is one of the products of an organization named Menards which is a renowned and reputed home improvement store in the mid-western part of USA. The company enjoys a vast and prominent presence throughout the country courtesy of its 252 stores in 12 states spread across the length and breadth of the country and also holds the honor of being one of the best stores in the country as regards quality and quantity. Ever since its establishment since 1962, this organization has not only surpassed the expectations of its clients but has also emerged as one of the leading employers.

The Menards vinyl fencing is available in a large variety meant to cater to all types of different uses. While some may be customized in accordance with the expectations of the clients, most of them serve as ideal enclosures for properties, gardens and lawns. There are aesthetic and artistic varieties as well which are referred to under the category of decorative fences and are usually bought by people who are interested in home improvements. Apart from being available in different colors, these fences are capable of sustaining all kinds of weather conditions which proves their durable and long lasting nature.

The Menards Vinyl Fencing are galvanized and vinyl coated which makes them sturdy where as the wired types are suitable for preventing animals from entering the garden by chewing the fence. The option of corner fences can be to add beauty and elegance to the area in form of a unique design feature. Likewise, the modular variety could be bought with doors in it so as to enhance its functionality and practical usage since it is convenient to install and assemble apart from being portable. To opt for this elegant brand of fencing is not only a commendable decision but a cost effective one as well.

Chain Link Fencing

(ArticlesBase SC #1102507)

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Chain Link Fencing

Chain link fences today come in a variety which will surprise anyone that hasn’t looked lately.

They are a widely known sight due to the ease of installing chain link fence. Made of galvanized steel, the alloy is lined with powdered zinc. The zinc gives the material protection and its dusty aluminum-like look and the steel offers a sturdy barrier.

Few house owners will need the thickest gauge but some building a kennel fence may want to consider it. Most will find that anything between 9-11 gauge is fine.

The latter tends to be a little less expensive, but the previous has the benefit that potentially less steel is exposed to the elements, minimizing the chances of rusting. GAW also tends to increase the tensile strength of the fence, but for many applications the differences are minor.

A polyvinyl chloride coating turns chain link into red, green, blue, yellow, brown, black or white. That permits the builder to integrate the fence better into the home or garden design without spray painting.

There are three different techniques of vinyl coating the fabric ( as the mesh is called ). The 1st, called extruded, wraps the wire in a vinyl jacket. The second is regarded as extruded bonded and actually adheres to the core. Thermally fused vinyl coating if normally only required for commercial applications, though home use is possible.

Over time nicks in the vinyl will introduce some degradation in the appearance as the fence is the subject of random scrapes with a garden hoe, bicycles, dog claws and others. A little spray paint in the suitable color can keep that problem to an insignificant level for years.

The common range is from one 3/8 in. – 2 3/8 in., but bigger or smaller diamonds are available. It’s still extraordinarily robust and sometimes less expensive. To keep out moggies, little dogs and rabbits a smaller mesh can be terribly useful.

To stop access to the garden or lawn by gophers, moles and other burrowing animals even the tiniest normal mesh may not do. Lining the lower section with some material can easily solve the issue, though. Integrated woven slats, a sheet of chicken wire and other strategies will stop access if the fence goes underground about a foot. Slats at the base also provide further privacy for you in the most versatile demeanour.
