Fence That Dog – With Love!

Most people that own a dog want what is best for them and that includes not only loving them, but keeping them safe as well. When your dog is left unattended they can easily run out into the street and get hit by a car; or if they wander around the area where you live, they could ingest harmful poisons. It is important that you protect your dog (or cat) and it is very easy to do that with an underground dog fence. With an underground fence you will no longer have to keep your dog on a leash; they will be able to run, jump and play. According to most veterinarians, this freedom is so good for them that you will soon notice a change in their behavior; they will become more fun and easier to manage. An underground dog fence works by combining training with proven technology and customized installation.

There are other reasons for installing an underground dog fence. If you live in a neighborhood, there are leash laws that you have to uphold, there are reproductive issues with allowing your dog to roam free and you also just want to be courteous to those living around you and keep your dog from digging in their flower beds or doing their business on their lawns. Most of the more popular underground dog fences are endorsed by national humane societies and veterinarians. You will be surprised, too, that this type of fencing is less expensive than wood or chain link fencing. This is due to accessories, labor costs and maintenance costs. Below are some details based on installing these fences yourself which would cost even less than if they were installed by a professional.

Accessories. With a wooden fence, you will need corner posts, a gate and hardware. With a chain link fence, you will need section connectors, a gate, corner poles and hardware. With an underground dog. Labor Costs. It would take approximately four weekends to install a wood fence or a chain link fence by yourself. An underground dog fence can be installed in one day.

Maintenance. For a wooden fence, you will need to replace rotted or damaged sections from time to time. For a chain link fence, you will need to patch tears in the fence from time to time. For an underground dog fence, you will need to replace the batteries approximately every three months. The time and cost of replacing batteries is much less overall than the time and cost of replacing sections and patching tears. Also, there are many underground dog fences that come with rechargeable batteries making maintenance nearly cost free.

This is definitely something you should look into before you decide what company to go with as it will be much easier maintenance-wise, not to mention more cost effective, to go with a company who offers a system that comes with rechargeable batteries. Before you make your decision, it would wise to also check for money-back guarantees and warranties.

Should I Buy A Vinyl Fence Or A Cedar Fence?

When I sell a fence to a customer. One of my first questions to them is, “what their looking for and”, “Do you want to replace this fence down the road?” Most answer, well you already know the answer to my 2nd question. My solution is vinyl fencing. It is becoming more popular throughout the United States as you have already seen. It comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors. The materials will never rot, chip, crack, peel.

Security fencing can be used for all manner of things, from the old fashioned, chain-link fence with its “DO NOT ENTER” metal signs to the modern, top of the range, anti-climb, anti-break fencing, designed with today’s volatile world in mind.

With violent protests hitting the news at an alarming rate, never before has knowing about security fencing and the types available to you been so important in protecting the sites you own.

Chain Link Fencing

The traditional choice and the image conjured in people when a security fence is mentioned. With its widely spaced design, the fence is an inexpensive option to consider when low to medium security is needed. When twinned with toppings, this can be a formidable security measure at a reasonable price.

Palisade Fencing

This is the kind of fencing most often found around businesses and hospitals. Its design of many long, thin strips of metal held at the top and bottom make it more difficult to climb than the chain link fencing, and with the tops often sharpened to a point, rarely requires toppings.

Welded Mesh Fencing

Welded mesh is like the traditional chain link fence but with its links much closer together. This is a more expensive option but is one of the most secure. Its closed design makes it one of the most difficult fences to climb, although it would still require toppings to complete the job thoroughly.

Fence Toppings

Toppings can range from the long strings of barbed wire seen atop of many security fences, to thick coils of razor wire. Not only is razor wire sharper than barbed, it also looks a more formidable device, the coils often adding a foot or more to the height of a fence.

Rapid Deployment Security Barrier

Looking like a bundle of coiled razor wire, a rapid deployment security banner is one that can be deployed by just two people in five minutes. The fence is 75 metres in length and can be attached to adjoining barriers to cover an even larger distance. These are ideal for the temporary security of an area at very short notice.

With all these opportunities on offer, and the sensitive nature of what they are designed to protect, knowing what is available is half the battle covered when you need to protect what you have.

Fence Cleaning And Maintenance

Fence maintenance can be frustrating if you are not sure how to clean a fence. Regardless if your looking for tips on how to clean a vinyl fence, wood fence, chain link fence or steel & aluminum fences; This article should teach you everything you need to know for proper fence maintenance. Each section will explain the materials needed for cleaning your fence, how to clean your fence, level of difficulty (based on a 1-5 scale with 1 being easy and 5 being hard) and the recommended time frames for cleaning… Let’s get started.

HOW TO CLEAN A VINYL FENCE:

Materials Needed:

* Water hose
* bucket of soapy water or spray bottle of vinyl cleaning solution.
* Soft cloth rags
* Soft scrub brush (for tougher stains or dirt)

Level of Difficulty:

* 2 – Vinyl fence is relatively easy to clean but can require a little “elbow grease” or extra scrub for some tougher stains and dirty spots.

Recommended Time Frame for Cleaning a Vinyl Fence:

* For maximum results; you should clean your vinyl fence at least once every 3 – 6 months.

Cleaning:
A few reasons why you would need to clean your vinyl fence would be: dirt and/or grass from the ground accumulating on the fence due to cutting the grass, leaves or other debris after a storm and rarely; you will notice a type of chalk build up develop on parts of the vinyl fence. These reasons are not major and are easily cleaned as explained below.

The majority of vinyl fences can be cleaned very easily by just spraying the fence down with a water hose; however, if there are some tough stains that a water hose does not take care of, just follow the method below and your fence will look brand new every time you clean it!

To prepare for cleaning a vinyl fence, you will want to decide if you are going to use a bucket of soapy water or a vinyl cleaning solution (can be purchased at your local hardware store) or a combination of both. If you are using a bucket of soapy water, you will want to fill the bucket with water to your desired amount and mix an environmentally safe cleaning solution in the bucket. (TIP: If it is environmentally safe,… It is vinyl fence safe)

After you have your bucket of soapy water, all you must do now is get your soft cloth rag wet via the water in the bucket and wipe down the areas of the fence that need wiped down. If you are using a spray bottle of vinyl cleaning solution, just spray the areas of the fence that need cleaned and wipe with a dry soft cloth rag. When you are finished cleaning an area of the fence, rinse it off with a water hose and allow it to air dry.

HOW TO CLEAN & STAIN A WOOD FENCE:

Materials Needed:

* Water Hose or Power Washer (for deep cleaning and removing old paint)
* Wood Stain, NOT PAINT (desired color)
* Bleach or wood cleaning solution
* Plastic Sheets (to protect grass under fence) OPTIONAL

Level of Difficulty:

* 4 or 5 – Cleaning a wood fence can be a little easier than our mentioned level of difficulty depending on the type and amount of cleaning that will be taking place.

Recommended Time Frame for Cleaning a Wood Fence:

* For maximum results we recommend that you clean/re-stain your wood fence once every 3-5 years.

Cleaning:
IF you have a cedar fence, you may notice that it will begin to turn a grayish color or the paint/stain will begin to lose its brightness and regardless of what kind of wood fence you have, you may notice a mold begin to develop on the fence. This section of the article will explain how to take care of these problems and get your wood fence looking new again!

If you decided to use plastic sheeting to protect your grass, you will want to lay that on the ground underneath the fence prior to starting any cleaning. (Using plastic sheeting will protect your grass from any harmful chemicals that may be in the cleaning solutions).

A mixture of “1 part bleach and 2 parts water” is very common when cleaning wood fences; however, you may also purchase wood cleaning solution from your local hardware store. What you will want to do first is apply the cleaning solution to the fence and allow it to soak in until you notice that the fence is becoming brighter and/or clean. You will then want to spray the fence off with a water hose (use a power washer for removing old paint or tough stains – make sure power washer is on the widest spray setting and held about 12 inches away from fence).

After the fence has been cleaned and sprayed off you will want to allow it to air dry. If it still needs cleaning in certain spots after it dries, repeat the above mentioned process. Once the fence is clean and dry you are ready to apply a strain. (If you do not wish to stain a certain color, you can use a wood sealant to ensure that the fence will look new for a long time). NOTE: DO NOT USE PAINT ON YOUR WOOD FENCE, INSTEAD USE A STAIN.

Properly apply the strain and allow the stain to dry. Your wood fence should now look beautiful and brand new. If you apply this process at least every 3 – 5 years, your wood fence will look beautiful and brand new for a long time!

HOW TO CLEAN CHAIN LINK, STEEL AND ALUMINUM FENCES:

Materials Needed:

* Water hose
* Soft scrub brush
* Bucket of soapy water OPTIONAL

Level of Difficulty:

* 1 – Cleaning metal fences such as chain link, steel and aluminum is very easy and does not require much time/effort to complete.

Recommended Time Frame for Cleaning a Metal Fences:

* For maximum results, we recommend that you clean your metal fences once a year or as needed.

Cleaning:
If you want to give your children a chore to do around the house, now is the time. Cleaning a chain link, steel or aluminum fence is very easy and can be performed by almost anyone. Most of the time you can clean your metal fence by simply spraying it off with a water hose; however, if you come across some tough stains or areas that need a little scrubbing, the following advice should do the trick.

First you will want to prepare a bucket of soapy water. To do this, simply fill a bucket with warm water and mix with any cleaning solution that will not increase chances of rust development. You will then want to take your soft bristle scrub brush and dip it in the soapy water. After the brush is wet, simply scrub the areas of the fence that need cleaning and rinse by spraying off with a water hose… Its that easy.

Temporary Fence Rentals

Edit Article |

]]>

An important part of any large event, construction project, or disaster management situation is a good fence. Temporary fence rentals provide the solution.

Structural and galvanized steel fences are most commonly manufactured for temporary use. Linear low-density polyethylene coated steel wire is also used to allow flexibility and durability.Engineered for quick assembly and teardown, all types of temporary fencing are conducive to any fencing needs.Dimensions of steel fencing can generally be rented in heights of 4, 6 or 8 feet in lengths of 10 feet.In most cases, users are charged per length of the fencing. The specifications of length and height of fencing is based on the type of fencing and what it is being used for.Budgets can be met by utilizing temporary fencing solutions. In providing security, safety and physical boundaries, temporary fencing solutions are key.

Some types of temporary fencing for rental include things like
Barricade
Frame
Safety Fencing
Pipe
Chain Link (Galvanized or vinyl-coated)
Kennel
Warehouse
Barbed Wire
Cantilever Gating
Barrier (Tube)
& More

For events needing crowd control and flow of traffic solutions, barricade fencing is a good choice. No assembly is required for barricade fencing as the fences often interlock, providing an ideal solution for events needing quick, temporary fencing.

Assembly for galvanized barricade fencing is as simple as interlocking the units, eliminating the worry of tools or construction knowledge.Barricade fencing can also come in the following components: vinyl, plastic and power-coated.

To ensure stability and security, steel frame fencing is manufactured using welded heavy gauge wire and square steel tubing for the frame. To alert the public of construction site hazards, high-visibility square steel frame fencing is used.Construction sites rely on safety fencing units in order to prevent incidents, alert the public of hazards and avert any debris from leaving the site by using a windscreen provided for fencing.Climbing of fencing and theft can be discouraged by using security toppers for steel frame fencing. To accommodate pedestrian or other traffic different types of railing and bases are available.

Often for outdoor events more than one type of temporary fencing is required to meet a multitude of needs. Most widely used types are galvanized, structural steel and PVC.Depending on the event, a variety of temporary fencing options may be required. For most concerts and festivals barricades, safety fencing and steel frame fencing are common with an emphasis on galvanized steel, structural steel and PVC as materials of choice.

Rolls of chain-link fences are most often used in garden centers, kennels, out of doors sports events, propane or high-pressurized canister cages, and for special events using the vinyl-coated versions for an aesthetic appeal. When renting chain-link fencing, customers have an option of galvanized or vinyl-coated steel and have the option of adding a gate in the design.Gates are also available for rental. Many warehouses rely on chain-link fence and swing-gate solutions to store many different materials, solving storage and safety issues.

Because of its ease of use and ability to be cut to specifications, barbed wire is a great temporary fencing solution for any circumstance.Easy to assemble and cut to specifications, barbed wire is a perfect provisional solution for basic temporary fencing needs.

In most cases, temporary fences are forklift-friendly and regularly included in the rental: delivery, assistance with installation and teardown, equipment for proper transport of materials and instructions as to proper use and care to ensure the successful installation of fencing. Each company has a different level of quality assurance. Be sure to investigate before committing to a rental.Because each company has a different rental contract agreement, be sure to research the company’s standards, reliability and the quality of engineering used for fencing products.Research the rental company and its quality of service before committing to a fencing rental.

Chicago Fence – Types of Chicago Fences Available

Edit Article |

Posted: Sep 09, 2010 |

]]>

There are many types of fencing materials available for the discerning homeowner and a good Chicago fence company should have experience working with these different materials. Wood and vinyl fences are the most common type of fencing that can be seen in many homes across the country.

Vinyl fences are very popular among many homeowners today. This is not surprising because using vinyl fencing material has many advantages when compared to wooden fencing. For one thing, vinyl fencing is a lot easier to install. You don’t have to sand vinyl fences and you don’t have to paint or finish them either. They also last longer than most wooden fences and they are resistant to UV rays and mildew. However, many people still use wooden fences. This is because vinyl fences tend to be very expensive. Ask around at any reputable Chicago fence company and you’ll find out. In fact, they can cost a few thousand dollars more than what a wooden fence could cost you. People also have qualms regarding the synthetic look that vinyl fences have. Many people see this as ironic since vinyl fences are very expensive but they can also look very cheap. Nothing can match the beauty and natural aesthetic qualities of a wooden fence. A good Chicago fence company will be able to acquaint you with the pros and cons of using wooden fencing materials.

An experienced Chicago fence company can also work with chain link fences. These fences are very durable and can last longer than both wooden and vinyl fences. However, these fences are not very pleasing to the eyes. They also rust easily, making them very ugly to look at. Unlike other types of fences, chain link fences do not really do a good job of shielding your homestead from prying eyes. Wooden fences offer homeowners with privacy and protection at a fraction of the cost. It also goes without saying that wooden fences look a lot better than chain link fences.

A reputable Chicago fence company can also work with wrought iron fencing. A wrought iron fence is probably the most durable type of fencing. In fact, a wrought iron fence can probably last for a few lifetimes. They can also be very beautiful and elegant. However, like chain link fences, they can also rust if proper maintenance is not done regularly. Wrought iron fences also do not offer good coverage, ruining the privacy of your home. In addition to that, they can also be more expensive than wooden fences.

Whatever type of fencing material you eventually choose, a reputable Chicago fence company will have no problems installing your fences. They can also give you more information regarding wooden fences and other types of fencing materials.

Be sure to do your own research as well so you can make the best possible decision taking all of your need into consideration. Regardless of your budget and your needs, a friendly, neighborhood Chicago fence company will be able to help you complete the home of your dreams.

Choosing Garden Metal Fencing For Style And Practicality

Edit Article |

Posted: Mar 23, 2010 | Views: 239 |

]]>

Metal fencing is chosen both for its practicality and its beauty. There are two types of garden metal fencing. The first is the utilitarian wire mesh type, such as chain-link fencing. Cheap, strong and versatile, it is sold in rolls and is erected between fence posts. It can be put up and taken down in a very short period of time, so is ideal for creating a temporary enclosure. Chain-link fences have a wide range of applications, being used in schools, sports grounds, parks and industrial areas as well as domestic gardens.

The second type of garden metal fencing is the ornamental type. This is solid and long lasting, and ranges from elaborate wrought iron designs to functional park railings. Traditionally, wrought iron fencing was built in situ and was very heavy. Today, lightweight alloy panels are used which, when painted, look just the same but are resistant to corrosion – and far easier to erect.

Decorative garden metal fencing may be erected freestanding, or fitted on top of a wall. Most people today choose the latter, both to keep costs down and because it is more in keeping with today’s modern houses and smaller front gardens. It is possible to buy matching metal fencing and driveway gates, which looks very upmarket indeed.

Many people who buy fencing from us at Wickes DIY take a tip from their local park, and combine both ornamental and chain-link fencing on their properties. Ornamental ironwork is used in areas that are on view, for example the front garden, and chain-link fencing kept for out-of-sight areas in need of a high level of security – for example, the bottom of the rear garden.

Wire fences are the ideal way to build a secure barrier against animals and other unwanted intruders, in areas where aesthetically pleasing fence panels aren’t needed. You will need to dig holes and cement the fence-posts in place, but after that it’s relatively easy. Once creepers etc start growing, the fence becomes invisible, but will offer 100% privacy and security.

Today, there are many types of chain-link fencing in various sizes and thicknesses. As well as heavy-duty galvanised, you can buy lightweight silver or synthetically-covered garden metal fencing that is attractive enough to have on show – for example, to separate off a games area or vegetable patch.

Decorative garden fencing is available in several styles, and is generally sold in 6ft lengths. The most popular height is 2 – 3ft, which is fixed to a low brick or stone wall equipped with pillars at regular intervals. However, it is possible to buy heights of 6 feet or more, with sheer railings that are impossible to scale.

If you like the idea, but not the potential hazard of spear-point railings, then buy the Kensington. Less austere than the Victorian original, it has short spears (called dog pickets) enclosed by attractive rounded arches. If you prefer a more flamboyant look, the Chelsea is an ornamental, wrought-iron style that is equally at home enclosing a garden feature as it is enclosing a front garden.

We at Wickes DIY sell these, plus many other garden metal fencing ideas, at our stores across the UK.

Construction Fence Rentals

Edit Article |

]]>

An important part of any major event, construction project, or disaster management situation is a good fence. Temporary fence rentals provide the solution.

Basic temporary fences are produced using galvanized steel, structural steel or in some cases linear low-density polyethylene coated steel wire. Each type of temporary fencing is made for speedy set-up and teardown for any event or use.Dimensions of steel fencing can generally be rented in heights of 4, 6 or 8 feet in lengths of 10 feet.Charge for basic fencing is dependent on the usage, length and height. The specifications of length and height of fencing is based on the type of fencing and what it is being used for.Safety and security, physical boundaries and storage are all ensured by using cost-effective temporary fencing solutions.

Types of Temporary Fencing:

Barbed Wire
Frame
Safety Fencing
Pipe
Kennel
Cantilever Gating
Warehouse
Barrier
Barricade (all sizes)
Chain Link (2 styles)
& More (will vary)

Barricade fencing is normally used for outdoor events and security for crowd control, blocking off areas to the public and for basic flow of traffic. No assembly is required for barricade fencing as the fences often interlock, providing an ideal solution for events needing quick, temporary fencing.

No tools are needed to assemble galvanized fencing as often the fences interlock.Barricade fencing can also come in the following materials: vinyl, plastic and power-coated.

Steel frame fencing is made of square steel tubing and welded heavy gauge wire for stability and security.Much bigger square steel frame fences are used in construction sites often painted orange for high-visibility to alert the public of the hazards.Construction sites rely on safety fencing units in order to prevent incidents, alert the public of hazards and avert any debris from leaving the site by using a windscreen provided for fencing.Climbing of fencing and theft can be discouraged by using security toppers for steel frame fencing. To accommodate pedestrian or other traffic different types of railing and bases are available.

Outdoor events such as festivals and concerts often use a mixture of temporary rental fences such as barricade (for crowd control and flow of traffic), coloured safety fencing (around hazardous equipment), and steel frame fencing for privacy, safety and reliability.Depending on the event, a variety of temporary fencing options may be required. For most concerts and festivals barricades, safety fencing and steel frame fencing are common with an emphasis on galvanized steel, structural steel and PVC as materials of choice.

Rolls of chain-link fences are most often used in garden centers, kennels, out of doors sports events, propane or high-pressurized canister cages, and for special events using the vinyl-coated versions for an aesthetic appeal.Customers have a range of galvanized steel or vinyl-coated chain-link fencing for rental.Gates are also available for rental. Many warehouses rely on chain-link fence and swing-gate solutions to store different materials, solving storage and safety issues.

A box and gate design is available and most widely used in kennels for temporary animal transport or containment. These fencing units are easy and simple to assemble.Chain-link fences and swing-gates are also generally used for animal compounds both inside and outdoor, providing security and safety.

Due to the specialized nature of cantilever gating, most companies provide gating for purchase only.In cases where great amounts of security and privacy is needed, construction sites often rent cantilever gating.

In most cases, temporary fences are forklift-friendly and frequently included in the rental: delivery, assistance with installation and teardown, equipment for proper transport of materials and instructions as to proper use and care to ensure the successful installation of fencing. Each company has a different level of quality assurance. Be sure to investigate before committing to a rental. Not all companies will provide the same level of service within the rental contract. Take note before signing.Research the rental company and its quality of service before committing to a fencing rental.
